About This Project

Nobody Wins – Nobody Loses
Description
This piece has been floating around in my head for ages so it’s good to get it out.
It’s a contemplation on the conflict between two elements that come from the same place but are opposed to each other, before ultimately being united and a refuge in their brokenness.
Iron ore is mined from the earth and turned into steel that is made into an excavator rock bucket.
The steel rock bucket is used to violently tear rock from the ground for all sorts of uses including construction and landscaping.
Ultimately rock tears a hole in the rock bucket rendering it useless for its intended purpose.
Rather than scrapping the steel and consuming more of the earths energy to recycle it we have used both rock and reclaimed steel to create a sanctuary where insects and birds can seek refuge and refreshment.
This piece of gorgeous Grampians sandstone with its natural pinks and whites was responsibly sourced by Melbourne stonemason Luke Doyle who carved it into a birdbath with bee steps.
