Mandala
Description
Mandala is from the ancient Sanskrit language meaning ‘whole world’ or ‘sacred circle’.
Mandala-making is used for insight, healing and self-expression.
Mandalas can transform and empower the spaces in which they stand and the lives of those who view them as well.
For the last 3 months Rob and I have been working together but apart.
We took an old cartwheel rim and divided it into quarters so Rob could make a template to design a leadlight mandala.
As Rob made the pattern and started to lay glass out he sent me pics of how it was progressing.
I realised very early on that this was going to be a really special piece so with the frame we had made the template from, I started to develop the sculpture to house it.
On these one off pieces Rob and I have never told each other what to do. He does his glass and I do my steel. I’ve always approached these works from the base of “how can I show off Rob’s glasswork as well as possible” I know if I work from that basis then we both end up with something really special.
We have had this finished for a few days now and I have found it hard to get to the point of putting it out there. I have so many images and videos but nothing compares to standing in front of it.
We are fortunate enough to produce work together all the time and while we enjoy it and appreciate it ‘Mandala’ has really caught us off guard with the feeling and connection it evokes.
It has captured us!
