About This Project

Making Tracks Fire Pit
Description
This double birdbath is set in a reclaimed excavator track chain painstakingly welded from both sides into a perfect circle.
Two full-size glass birdbath vessels are seated in excavator drive sprockets that look far more beautiful after years of churning away on an earthmovers undercarriage than they would if they were brand new.
Rather than using a base made to hide and bury, this base was one of three rolling trench wheels mounted together and used to compact trenches on a 30-ton excavator.

We are pleased with the aesthetic of this piece and the way the brutality of it is softened and balanced by the hand-slumped glass from artist Rob Hayley.

Dimensions
1.7m diameter chain ring x 67cm diameter glass vessels.
