Our First Giant Birdbaths Are Here!
It’s been a massive few months behind the scenes, and we’re finally ready to share something we’ve been quietly working toward: the successful firing of our very first full-sized slumped glass birdbaths in our new giant kiln!

Four months ago, Rob and I took a leap and purchased a large second-hand glass kiln. It’s been a big investment and a big job. Since then, we’ve poured a concrete slab, transported the kiln into place, built a gantry to safely lift the heavy lid, sourced a powerful commercial generator to run it and completed a lot of complex electrical work.
A huge thanks to the other guys who helped us get it all together, including Dave, our sparky extraordinaire!
From there, the real work began: learning to program the kiln’s computer controller, testing firing schedules and patiently troubleshooting every step. But after months of learning and refining, we finally completed our first full firing with the size of glass we were aiming for.

When we opened the kiln, we were greeted with beautiful, glossy, crystal-clear panels. That’s when we knew it had all been worth it. The scale, the texture, the finish, it was everything we’d hoped for and more.

We ran the next part of the process – slumping the flat panels into curved birdbath shapes. We’ve built special molds for this step and it’s always a little magic watching glass soften into form.

With Rob’s deep expertise in glass, we also experimented with different techniques during the firing. One panel has an earthy, moonscape texture while another features a more refined, subtle finish, each pushing our creative boundaries and expanding what’s possible.

And here’s where we landed: our very first pair of giant, sculptural glass birdbaths! These pieces aren’t just practical, they’re stunning focal points that carry the story of innovation, problem-solving, and creative ambition.
These two are just the beginning. We’ve already got new designs in the pipeline and can’t wait to explore what else this kiln will help us create.
Stay tuned, this is a whole new chapter for our work, and we’re excited to take you along for the journey. 🙂
