Firepits That Do More Than Keep You Warm

A firepit naturally becomes the heart of an outdoor space. It’s where chairs slowly move closer, conversations continue and someone eventually finds a bag of marshmallows.

Tim creates sculptural firepits from reclaimed industrial steel, allowing the original shapes, textures and marks of the material to become part of the finished work. Each firepit has its own history and plenty of character before the first log is even added.

The Rings of Saturn is made entirely from reclaimed industrial steel. Its circular form frames the fire beautifully, while its compact size makes it a great option for smaller gardens and courtyards.

For something with a little more drama, The Gravity Firepit features a suspended fire pod made from reclaimed six-millimetre steel. The pod is balanced and counterweighted, appearing to be held in place by forces you can’t see. It’s part firepit, part sculpture and part engineering puzzle.

When Glass and Steel Get Together

Steel and glass make an unlikely but very good pairing.

The steel is strong, weathered and industrial. Glass adds colour, transparency and changing reflections. Together, they create sculptures that look different as the light and weather shift throughout the day.

The Salvaged Circle is a wonderful example. Tim created the piece from part of an old diesel storage tank, giving the heavy industrial material a new life as a circular planter and garden focal point.

Sections of reclaimed lattice steel add movement to the ring, while plants soften its shape. At the centre is a handmade clear glass disc that catches and holds the light, creating a quiet contrast with the rugged steel around it.

Into The Blue has a completely different personality. It combines heavy reclaimed steel with an old blue railway signal lens and fused strips of red, white and blue glass. The railway lens shines brightly in direct sunlight, while the glass radiating from the centre adds colour and detail.

Then there is Reclaimed Song, a sculptural bell made entirely from reclaimed steel. A vine winds through the structure, finished with individually cut and shaped steel leaves. When the bell is rung, its deep sound lingers in the air—giving a rather heavy piece of metal a surprisingly gentle voice.

Hanging Sculptures with Their Own Personalities

Tim’s glass and steel hanging sculptures are made to decorate walls, verandas, eaves and other outdoor areas. They can add interest to spaces where a standing sculpture might not fit, and they make excellent use of an otherwise bare wall.

Many of these pieces take inspiration from the Australian landscape. Blazing Wattle, Silver Snow Gums, Myrtle and Summer Gums bring familiar natural forms into steel and glass.

As the daylight changes, the glass catches different colours and reflections. The steel creates strong outlines and shadows, while some hanging pieces may move gently with the breeze.
