Tread Designs: Glass and Metal Modern Bird Baths Australia
Tread Sculptures is a Melbourne studio specialising in outdoor art and decorative metal. Our bird baths are a unique combination of reclaimed steel and gorgeous handmade glass bowls and features by local artist Rob Hayley. Bowls and bases are interchangeable and we have a wide variety of shapes, designs and colours to choose from. See current work for sale.
Continuity
This birdbath has a softness and gentleness not often seen in my brutalist style.
It’s a piece that works from each side and with the position of the leaves and gum flowers you get a different perspective from every angle.
Nobody Wins – Nobody Loses
Birdbath made from Grampians sandstone by Luke Doyle.
Rather than scrapping the steel and consuming more of the Earth’s energy, we used both rock and reclaimed steel to create a sanctuary where insects and birds can seek refuge and refreshment.
Serenity Triple Birdbath
Triple birdbath and feeder with handmade slumped glass.
With handmade slumped glass from glass guru Rob Hayley, this new design can have any combination of vessels in size, design and colour. The smaller vessel can also have holes in it to work as a bird feeder. The mild steel arches will rust and contrast beautifully with greenery.
Little Ripples
Birdbath with handmade slumped glass leaf.
The latest bespoke bird bath with a handmade large 67cm diameter spiral green glass vessel and a glass leaf slumped specifically to fit from glass artist Rob Hayley.
Ocean Grove
Birdbath with serene rippled glass.
After the steel sculpture is made, glass artist Rob Hayley takes a template then designs and slumps the glass specifically for the piece.
Melbourne Grammar Bird Bath
This piece features a sandstone roof stone from an old building at Melbourne Grammar, carved into a birdbath with bee steps.
This special piece is the first collaboration with two Nillumbik artists who are new to the Tread Sculptures team. Luke Doyle from the Bend of Island is a stonemason who has spent his career doing restoration work on iconic Australian buildings. Luke recovered this roof gable stone whilst working on Melbourne Grammar and has carved out the underside as a birdbath with bee steps. Paul Cacioli is a renowned Eltham Blacksmith who forged the steel rope-like brackets, rings and mounts to hang the vessel. I did the old gantry arm and mounting and created the vines and leaves to finish it off.
Changing Seasons
Handmade modern bird bath.
The glass leaf was slumped especially for this piece after the metal sculpture work was done. Ripper glasswork by Rob Hayley of course!
