About This Project

The Portal
Description
The Portal is a collaboration of three artists, blacksmith Paul Cacioli, glass Artis Rob Hayley and Tim Read from Tread Sculptures.
Fabricated from new and reclaimed material the centre of this piece is created with one inch thick slabs of glass measuring 8 by 12 inches and called Dalles that are broken with a carbide hammer.
The edges of the glass are chipped, or faceted, so that light will be refracted through the facets.
These pieces of glass are then set in black resin to concentrate the refracted light leading to a stunning display.
The Portal draws you into garden space with a kaleidoscope of colour.
Dimensions
Outer circle is 1.2m diameter inner circle with glass is 57cm diameter.
