Shelter
Description
You can’t spend time walking along the Yarra River or adventuring in the Australian bush without looking up and marvelling at the beauty, strength, and resilience of our uniquely Australian gum trees.
Their strong trunks and gnarly branches reach out and provide homes and refuge to birds and other wildlife.
Their roots go in search of the firmest ground to brace them against wind, storms, and floods for decades and centuries.
They remind us of our own fragility and encourage us to be strong resilient and open in our lifetime too.
All the steel foliage for this piece is hand cut to form the backing for Rob’s glass leaves that are also hand cut, hand glazed, and then fired in the kiln.
Red gum nut flowers are created with two pieces of hand cut fusible glass and detailed by hand with glaze, before being fused together in the kiln.
