The Monstera leaf has captivated human imagination from its birth in tropical rainforests of Mexico and Panama to its use as a house plant in the west.
Its large unique leaves have come to be a symbol of hidden secrets and inner strength.
I think this comes from its unique characteristics and appearance (hidden secrets) and its incredible ability to adapt to different environments (inner strength).
The glasswork in this piece is particularly time consuming and difficult. The outline of the leaf is hand-cut then for each of the fenestrations Rob needs to drill a hole through the glass then cut lines to the outside then gradually chip his way in without breaking the leaf. Color glaze is then mixed hand detailed and fired in the kiln.
